MECAL PRO 2021

Mecal Pro, the Barcelona International Short and Animation Film Festival, will celebrate its 23rd edition. With more than 5,000 short films submitted annually, Mecal has become one of the most important festivals of its field in Spain. Due to its international scope and quality programming, Mecal regularly benefits from grants awarded by various Spanish public cultural institutions.
The festival takes place throughout three weeks, each one focused on a different genre: animation, fiction and documentary. There are 4 competitions – international, oblique, animation and documentary – in which 15 prizes will be awarded. Furthermore, Mecal Pro has parallel sections that address important social topics, such as feminism, ecology, immigration and the LGTBIQ+ community. All in all, more than 350 short films from over 40 countries will be screened in 26 different sections, which establish Mecal as a reference among European short film festivals.
Mecal is strongly committed to promoting the exhibition and dissemination of audiovisual creations in the short format, not only with the public, but also in having creators and distributors meet through different parallel activities, where fostering the emerging young talent is also a priority.
